Areas of Expertise

Stabilization Amendments

Stabilization with amendments is a cutting edge technology for dealing with many of today’s environmental contaminants (eg. PFAS, hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, heavy metals, and more). Stabilization provides immediate results from the one-time application of the amendment to the matrix being treated. Application techniques and implementation of the amendment are critical to its success. We have experience in using proprietary activated carbon formulae, biochar, Fluorosorb, and Regenesis Petrofix as well as others, This technology allows treated materials to be left in place after treatment. This technology eliminates trucking and disposal costs and reduces liability.

Holistic Bioremediation

FungiBio is the process that begins with fungi which initiate extracellular and intracellular enzymatic digestion of complex contaminants. The micro (mycelium) and macro (mushroom) fungi break down the contaminate to smaller fractions which stimulates the endemic bacteria to continue the degradation process. Meanwhile, the macro fungi (mushrooms) grow, mature, sporulate, and rot which supplies stimulates additional endemic fungi and opportunistic bacteria to continue the degradation process to CO2 and water. Insects lay eggs and larvae, which in turn attracts birds and other soil organisms. The FungiBio process follows a natural course in soil or water restoration. It is a low-cost, environmentally safe, and proven method for remediation of recalcitrant contaminants. The FungiBio Process degrades hydrocarbons, PAHs, herbicides, pesticides, PCP, dioxin, and other complex pollutants and bioaccumulates heavy metals.

Chemical Oxidation

Chemical oxidation technologies, remediate hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, herbicides, pesticides, PCP/Dioxins in soil and groundwater which are based on modified Fenton chemistry-hydrogen peroxide. Additional oxidants such as magnesium peroxide, calcium peroxide, and persulfate, and permanganate can be utilized depending on the pollutant and soil type. Our extensive knowledge in sub-surface injection methods and techniques assures successful projects.

Ontario Environmental Compliance Applications (ECA)

SWT has secured multiple mobile Environmental Compliance Approvals for use of remedial equipment, remedial treatment processes as well as water treatment equipment and processes. SWT currently has multiple mobile ECA’s, so we speak from experience. Call us for more information.

Research & Development

R&D in mycoremediation is the priority at SWT. Understanding the synergistic interactions between fungi and bacteria is fundamental in developing holistic bioremediation. In particular inoculation techniques are critical for establishing the initial fungal population and is the main focus of our research.
